My top five favorite novels of all time

| | Comments (3)

A conversation with Keri prompted me to think about my top five all-time favorite novels. Here they are, in order:

1. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain
2. Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte
3. Middlemarch, by George Eliot
4. Tess of the D'urbervilles, by Thomas Hardy
5. The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck

If I were to add on five more to make a top ten, they would be:

6. Gilead, by Marylinne Robinson
7. To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee
8. Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison
9. The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne
10. The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald

What?! How did To Kill a Mockingbird get bumped to the second tier???

Hey, I have my priorities. As you can see, my top five leans British.

Yes, I certainly noticed that.
