Washington DC in the fall

| | Comments (1)

I went to DC this weekend to see various siblings (Anna, Andrew & Andrea, Joe), friends, etc., and was struck with the beauty of the fall there. Although color seems to be late in the south this year, the trees lining Capitol Hill were nonetheless full of charm, quelling any frustration I might have with the irrationally-laid out streets of that city.

We went to Georgetown and got caught in the ruckus of the filming of a Nicole Kidman movie on M Street. The crew was yelling at the crowds to cross the street elsewhere, but we crossed anyway, Nicole Kidman notwithstanding (no sign of her by the way, but my sister-in-law Andrea figured it out by looking at the name of the film on the back of one of the directors' chairs). I think Andrew and Lauri might have accidentally gotten in as "extras" in one of the scenes.

Signs, Ironies, and Baseball

There are two banners hanging up at the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The one in the advertising department says "How Bad Do You Want It?" This sign grates at my grammatical senses, and when I told a co-worker this she said it was a quote from somewhere. Some quote.

The other banner hangs in the editorial department, and it says "Details Make the Difference." This message, ironically, applies oh-so-well to the banner in Advertising. Well, maybe it's not that ironic, but I like to pretend that it is. My point is, we should care about grammar all the time, including when it comes to signs hanging up in our offices. Enough said.

In other news, I am now fully recovered from the Cards' loss to the 'Stros in the NLCS. The Cards always have such great seasons and then somehow fall apart in the postseason. Kinda like the Braves. No loss, though, however great, can take anything away from The Homerun by Pujols on Monday night. Some are saying that it will now just be a footnote, but I think it will still go down in the history books as one of the greatest.

We'll see if the "Shy Sox" can whip the pants off the Astros in the Series. Although I won't be watching - I have better things to do :)
